Elina Buksha’s interpretations are deep and her sound is round and impassioned. Her talent bears an inimitable individuality. She performs with dramatic expressiveness and inner freedom. Elina Buksha is considered one of Latvia's foremost up and coming violinists. Elina has been playing violin since the age of 5, having been a student of Latvian violin professor Ojars Kalnins until 2009. Later she continues her studies with Boris Belkin in The Netherlands. Since 2011 Elina studies with Ana Chumachenko in masterclasses in France, Germany and Switzerland. She have performed both as soloist and chamber musician in Sweden, Russia, Finland, France, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Italy, Romania. Since her debut with Liepaja Symphony orchestra at age of 12, when she performed Mozart Violin Concerto Nr.5, Elina has important concert appearances in her native Latvia, which have included regular appearances with Latvian National Symphony orchestra, Latvian National Opera orchestra, Collegium Musicum Riga and others. Having won her first violin competition at the age of six, Elina has since been a laureate of many national and international competitions, among them International Jaroslav Kocian Competition in the Czech Republic, „Remember Enescu” competition in Romania, A.Postaccini Competition in Italy. Elina Buksha debut CD entitled Ave Maria, recorded in Riga's Doma Cathedral, also featuring soprano Inese Galante and organist Aivars Kalejs was released in 2008. Since age of 14, Elina is artist of concert agency Herman Braun Foundation in Latvia. Now she's studying at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, under the direction of A. Dumay. She received a scholarship granted by Mr & Mrs Michael Guttman and plays the Piatti violin built by Stradivari (1717, Cremona) received from the Queen Elisabeth Foundation.
The Telegraph (London) describes Russian pianist Pavel Kolesnikov’s playing as having “brilliance, but also a caressing, almost sly intimacy”. Kolesnikov, who was named Honens Prize Laureate in 2012, made his recital debut in the Small Hall of the Moscow Conservatory in 2008 and has since played both as soloist and collaborator throughout Russia, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
Recent and upcoming engagements include festival appearances at Spoleto Festival USA, the Ottawa International Chamber Music and Banff Summer Arts Festivals (Canada), the Plush Festival (United Kingdom) and with orchestras including the Calgary Philharmonic and Regina Symphony Orchestras, l’Orchestre National de Belgique, the London Philharmonic and Russia’s National Philharmonic Orchestras. Thanks to his Honens win, he will soon make debuts at Berlin’s Konzerthaus, London’s Wigmore Hall and New York’s Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall. His first studio recording—an all-Tchaikovsky disc—will be released on the Hyperion label in 2014. A live recording of his winning Honens Prize performances is available now on the Honens label. Kolesnikov studies at Moscow State Conservatory with Sergey Dorensky, at London’s Royal College of Music with Norma Fisher and at Brussels’ Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel with Maria João Pires. He calls London home.
