Belen Cabanes Altés, born in Vilanova i La Geltrú (Barcelona), began her professional training with Rosa García and Enrique Burgos, obtaining the certificate of Spanish dancer from the Professional dance conservatory of Madrid studied the Castanet Method of Emma Maleras. Moves to Madrid joining the Ballet Teatro Español of Rafael Aguilar, performing as soloist in the work Rango (version of La Casa de Bernarda Alba written by Federico García Lorca). She begins touring the world in this Company.

In 1996 she joins Gioccarpa (a duo of harp players from the Opera Sinfónica de Euskadi) as a concert castanet player and dancer. In 1997, she collaborates in the recording of the CD Tanganera, composed by the guitarist Víctor Valls, percusionist (feet and castanets). The same year, she created the group Flamenco Camerata with the guitarist Andreas María Germek and the singer José Parrondo, performing all over Europe.

In1997 she won first prize in the VI Certamen de coreografía de Danza Española y Flamenco (6th Spanish Danced and Flamenco Choreography Contest) (Madrid) with a choreography by Carmen Luque. In 1999 she is one of the finalists in the 8th edition of the same contest De Ausencia, choreography by Juan Carlos Lérida (dance company 2D1) and original music by Andreas María Germek.
Since 1999 she performs in the spectacle Castañuelas Hoy, by the reknowned concert musician José de Udaeta with the pianist Marina Rodrigez Brià, the debut taking place in the Music Festival of Ludwigsburg Castle (Germany), and performing in operas and concert halls such as the Berlin Staatsoper and the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya. This spectacle was recorded by Televisió de Catalunya, produced by Toni Margalló.

In the IX Certamen de Coreografía de Danza Española y Flamenco (9th Spanish Dance and Flamenco Choreography Contest) (Madrid, 2000), she wins 2nd prize with the choreography Costumbre by Juan Carlos Lérida and the Premio a la bailarina Sobresaliente (Prize for the most outstanding dancer).
Guest artist in the production of the work Lorca (Catarina Mora Produccions,Stuttgart) in the Dusseldorf Flamenco Festival (April 2002).
She creates the spectacle Castañuela Contemporánea (Contemporary Castanet) with the guitarist Andreas María Germek.

She presents a book dedicated to Emma Maleras Les castanyoles: la grandesa d'un instrument petit, organised by the Institut del Teatre, Diputació de Barcelona.

Teacher in the Dance Conservatory of the Institut del Teatre of Barcelona (from February 2003).

In 2004, she creates, with the pianist Marina Rodríguez and the chellist Ana Mora, the trio Ànima Nua (classical castanet music)

With the spectacle El Secreto de la castañuela (The Secret of the Castanet) she won the Premio de la crítica (Critic's award) in the Festival de Jerez, 2004.

 

Born to an Austrian musician family, Andreas Maria Germek began his training in the area of classical guitar, including with Đtepán Rak, Jürgen Hübscher and Sonja Prunnbauer. For more than 20 years he has been involved with the Spanish guitar and the study of the flamenco guitar, often spending longer periods of time in Sevilla. He has worked with artists such as Manolo Marín, Juan del Gastor, Juana Amaya, Joaquín Ruiz, Rafael Habichuela, Toni Maya and José Parrondo.

His stage appearances have included solo and chamber music concerts as well as performing with Flamenco ensembles. In addition, he is a published composer and arranger. Andreas is in demand as a seminar leader and as a speaker on the subject of flamenco, for example at the International Guitar Festival in Nürtingen, the New England Conservatory of Music (Boston, USA) the Juilliard School (New York). His work has also been presented on radio programs such as BR and ORF. In 1998 his solo CD rojo y negro (Pasarela, Sevilla) was released. He has also composed music for and worked closely with dancer Juan Carlos Lérida, who was a finalist in the VIII Certamen de Coreografía de Danza Española y Flamenco in Madrid.

In 1996 he formed the ensemble Flamenco Camerata with dancer and castanet virtuoso Belén Cabanes and singer José Parrondo, which performs regularly throughout Europe (among others: Internationale Gitarrenfestspiele Nürtingen / Germany, Sibiu International Theatre Festival / Romania, Festival Andalou / Saint-Jean-De-Luz, France, Konzerthaus Wien / Austria, Festival de la Porta Ferrada / San Feliù, Spain, Ohrid Summer / Macedonia).

The program Castañuela Contemporánea for guitar and concert-castanets with Belén Cabanes can be seen a. o. in Sweden (Julita Festivalen), Austria (Musikverein Wien), Spain (Festival de Jeréz) and Lithuania (Pazaislis Music Festival).

His work since 2000 with soprano and dancer Rachel Lynn Bowman has made it possible for him to help create a concert program in which classical and flamenco are presented. The recital mujer y cuerdas and the ensemble noche de luna y flor, which grew out of this cooperative work has toured in the USA including the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center (Massachusetts) and Newport Performing Arts Center (Oregon) among others. The ensemble has also performed regularly in Europe including Festival Lent in Slovenia, Schlosskonzerte Goldegg in Austria and Munich´s Gasteig and has been able to win an audience of enthusiastic flamenco fans.

Since 2002 Andreas Maria Germek has worked with the legendary Spanish dancer and castanet virtuoso Jose de Udaeta as composer and musician (a. o. Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele / Germany, Centre Cultural Caixa Terrassa / Barcelona, Spain).

In his latest collaboration with dancer / choreographer Belén Cabanes, he took new strides in combining contemporary musical styles with strongly rooted flamenco musical themes in the choreography and storyline of the in 2003 world-premiered dance-theater production Tiempo de Flores.

The renewed collaboration with Juan Carlos Lérida in 2006 lead to a program named Con Secuencia, bringing together different artistic personalities from the branches of Flamenco, classical music and contemporary dance.

 In 2009 he has been awarded a scholarship for composition from the Austrian state.

          In 2011 his composition Tiempo de Flores - Suite for Flamencoguitar, Flamencoensemble and orchestra is performed in the Großer Saal of the Viennese Musikverein together with the Tonkünstler-Orchester under the direction of Andrés Orozco Estrada.
