Charlie Chaplin and music

As the foremost Chaplin authority and as the music director for the Chaplin Estate”, Timothy Brock has restored the original Chaplin’s scores for Modern Times, City Lights, The Kid, The Circus, A Woman of Paris, a few shorts and finally The Gold Rush.  This scores are of course his signature pieces.

Born in Seattle, composer and conductor, Mr Brock is a recognized authority in Music of the XX Century, with a special attention to the music of D. Shostakovich and the composers from the “Entartete Musik” period: he has given the American premiere, and sometimes world premiere, of many works by authors like Ullman, Haasa, Schulhoff, and Shostakovich himself, whose famous score for the movie “New Babylon” Mr Brock has restored for Boosey&Hawkes.
But besides restoring original scores, Mr Brock is a fantastic author and his list of compositions includes music written for masterpieces of the silent movies like

Nosferatu, Faust, Pandora’s Box, Lady Windermere’s Fan, The Cabinet of Dr Caligari… Hitchcock classic “Blackmail” (1929) which after its wildly successful premiere in 2008 in Bologna, is proving to be a popular choice with many orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra in their 2010/11 season.

The years 2009 and 2010 have seen Mr Brock conducting throughout Europe and the States with major orchestras, such as: Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Teatro Massimo Palermo, the Orchestras of Lille, Bordeaux, Lyon, Strasbourg, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Staatstheatre Braunschweig, Berner Symphonie-Orchester, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Milwakee Symphony Orchestra, ORF Radio at the Vienna Konzerthaus, BBC Symphony Orchestra.
